Here’s why celebrities are raving over cupping therapy!

Cupping is an ancient Chinese practice which has now become a favorite among celebrities. From Olympic winning Michael Phelps to stars like Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Aniston and Padma Lakshmi hailing the many benefits of the alternate healing methodology, cupping therapy is the new go-to therapy to look ageless and do away with aches and pains in therapeutic, relaxing sessions.

According to healers, cupping therapy can stimulate blood flow around the lymph nodes and stretch out sore muscles and tissues, helping you deal with problems like chronic muscle pain, bad blood circulation and give your skin a good glow. The process only takes a few minutes but promises you both short term and long term benefits.

In fact, cupping therapy can also be helpful in treating conditions like fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety, arthritis and blood disorders like anemia. Benefits have also be found to balance out breathing and fertility problems as well. While these is no scientific backing, they work on the basis of detoxification and purifying blood.

How it works

The therapist usually places different cups on the surface of the skin often made out of bamboo, glass. The suction effect created by the cups works by pulling the blood onto the surface. This, in turn, promotes sterile inflammation, purging out toxins from the flesh without causing a lot of trauma or pain to the body. The vacuum suction of the cup separates different tissues, which then causes tearing and leads to a temporary burst of white blood cells (WBCs), platelets. The suction effect pulls blood into the area of skin underneath the cup. This saturates the surrounding tissue with fresh blood and promotes new blood vessel formation.

The therapy works in a strange way as the cupping leaves red marks behind. However, it is temporary. In fact, healers say that the cup marks left behind on the skin serve an important purpose- the size, shape, and color are said to reflect the amount of “stagnation” or cellular waste buildup which the therapy leaves.
While body cupping is used to alleviate aches and pain and regularly used by athletes and sports enthusiasts to relieve soreness and stiffness, another form of cupping which is very popular is facial cupping. By placing small vacuums on the face, it restores good blood supply to the face and gets rid of the usual symptoms of tiredness, puffiness and baggy skin. It also helps in regeneration of skin as we age because the increased blood supply boosts collagen production on the surface and renews skin, making you look young, firm, and smooth.
